Access violation at address 00000000

Hi Folks,

I have just installed MS 13 but am getting the error:
Access violation at address 00000000. Read of address 00000000

This is happening for any and all scripts immediately. None of the sample scripts will run without this error and then it fails. I then need to stop the script but MS will not shutdown without being killed in Task Manager.

I have using Win7 64bit and have tried the following with no joy:
* Used MSCONFIG to start windows with min services and startups - still the same access violation.
* Uninstalled MS and re-installed - same access violation.

Now at wits end as all was peachy before. I think some other process is using the same space as MS but I am totally stumped as to which one.

Odd.

Did you install with the regular installer downloaded from our website?

Check that:

1. Program files (msched.exe) are in Program Files (x86)\Macro Scheduler 13

2. Script files are in My Documents\Macro Scheduler 13

Are you able to open these files in Notepad? Can you write to this folder?

3. What is the value of this registry key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MJTNET\MSched13 - DataDir

It should point to 2 above. Is that folder writeable?

4. Do you have any IMPORTS. Look in the program files folder. If there is an Imports folder try temporarily renaming it.

5. Do you have any anti-virus/anti-malware tools running? Temporarily disable them, or whitelist Macro Scheduler in them.

Frankly puzzled. If none of the above shed light contact the help desk and we'll hook up, share screens and take a look.

Thanks Marcus, off to try. I did do some imports and I am not using an admin account day to day (no no for work security wise) but do have admin rights though another account. Never needed to be admin to script day to day, just to install. Will advise.

All working now, many thanks!

1. Was fine
2. Was fine
3. Needed fixed.

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\MJTNET\MSched13 - DataDir

This showed as c:\ADMIN_ACCOUNT\My Documents\Macro Scheduler 13 so changed it to c:\USER_ACCOUNT\My Documents\Macro Scheduler 13

Tried it again after that and it still had the access violation.

4. Renamed c:\Program Files (x86)\Macro Scheduler 13\Imports to c:\Program Files (x86)\Macro Scheduler 13\Imports.old and tested again. Bingo!!

So thanks very much for the tips. Do I need to do anything with the imports folder now or just leave it renamed?

Guessing some dodgy DLL or something inside Imports. Can you tell me what is in there? This is where e.g. the WebRecorder runtime goes and you can download other libraries from here. No known issues with any of ours, but let me know what you find in there. For now you can leave it renamed.

You are right it was only 2 files for the webrecorder:

IEAuto.dll
IEAuto.ini

Judging by the dates I would say they were the Web Recorder 2 files. Have now Installed WR 3 and it created a new imports dir with the same files but newer 2012 dates.

All still working well so I guess that was it. I should have done things in this order to upgrade:

Uninstall WR 2
Uninstall MS 12
Install MS 13
Install WR 3

Access violation at address 00000000
