Can Not Record Macros
Hello
I thought I should share this with everyone.
I can launch MS OK, and run Old Macro's and samples, but when I select "record" and give it a name then press start, whatever I click on (be it an icon, folder, menu command or a link off an internet page, nothing happens.
The mouse pointer moves fine, but its as if windows or IE/firefox just locks up.
When I press ctrl-Alt-s to stop the recording, I get a message saying "invalid file name". The Record Icon stays greyed out until I exit MS completely and restart.
Reinstalled latest version still didn't work. Tried v11beta same thing.
After a couple hours troubleshooting I narrowed it down to a conflict with windows "print spooler" service.
As long as I "disable" the print spooler service I can record.
Has anyone seen this issue before?

That's a new one. Here are some issues I am aware of:
1) Some Antivirus/Antispyware tools think Macro Scheduler's macro recorder is a keylogger and prevent it from working. Disabling the AV tool (or whitelisting Macro Scheduler within it) fixes it.
2) If using Vista: Vista will only allow the macro recorder to work if Macro Scheduler is installed in a "trusted location" which basically means Macro Scheduler must be installed under the default "Program Files" location. As long as you use the default install options you will have no problem but if you change the install folder to somewhere other than a trusted location the macro recorder will not work. You will get a warning to that effect if you change the install folder during install.
I can't fathom why the print spooler service should affect the macro recorder and indeed I've never had to disable the print spooler before on any of the PCs I've installed Macro Scheduler on. But be interested to know if anyone else has seen this.

Update
Just installed MS 9 and had the same problem. The only thing I have added lately was a new Hp printer. So i decided to remove the printer and try it again.
Recording works again! I reinstalled MS 10 and it is still working.
So the conflict appears to be with the HP software suite that came with my new printer not the spooler service.
Printer is "HP photosmart c7250 All-in-one"

Re: Update
Interesting... I'm shopping for a printer so I'll be sure to avoid that one. I wonder if there are any more I should avoid? If anyone has had a similar experience... please post.stitch22 wrote:So the conflict appears to be with the HP software suite that came with my new printer not the spooler service.

I wonder if the HP software suite is doing something it shouldn't... or if the MS software is or...??? Should HP be notified?
Thanks for digging and posting on this problem stitch22. If you or Marcus discover any more details about this incompatibility, please let us know.
Take care

Recording Problem resolved
Hi All,
Just wanted to let you know that HP finally updated their drivers for the HP Photosmart C7200 series and the problem is now resolved. Apparently it was causing more serious issues with windows.
update for xp

no more disabling print spooler and rebooting to record.

Can't record
I've got 10.1.15 installed and I can't record any macros. It is the first time on this workstation I have tried to record macros but it responds just as described above. I tried disabling my print spooler service but that didn't have any effect. I don't have an HP printer (just a network based Lexmark and Ricoh). I am running Vista, but MS is installed to a default location c:\program files\macro scheduler. Also, if I ctrl-alt-s to stop the recording, I get a dialog popup that says "File not found."
I'm stuck for now and hope I can get this going.

Try temporarily disabling your antivirus/antispyware/firewall products. See if that helps. Some AV/security tools see the macro recorder as a keylogger (in effect it is) and therefore prevent it from working. Try also rebooting.
Is c:\program files the correct location? Type the following in a command prompt:
Set ProgramFiles
What does it show? If it shows ProgramFiles=C:\Program Files then fine, if not you want to install Macro Scheduler into whatever it does show.

works now..
I'm not sure exactly what the fix was, but I did two things:
1. downloaded and applied 10.1.21 (was using 10.1.15)
2. rebooted.
Now it works great, although, I had it installed previously and was playing macros for weeks, I just couldn't record. I had only tried recording a new macro within the last couple days though. Anyway, it works now! Thanks!
