"Feature Requests" Page on Macro Scheduler Website

Post by jpuziano » Wed Apr 05, 2006 3:06 am

This enhancement suggestion is about the website not Macro Scheduler itself.

We have the enhancements forum here but I know that many enhancement ideas get posted in other forums as well and I often wonder what's actually on the "official wish list".
Marcus, I think a great addition to the website would be a "visible wish list" or "feature requests" page.

As an example, the site below has a "top feature requests" page and makes it possible for users to both request new features and vote for their favorite ones. All feature requests are shown and ranked by votes.

They even assign a quota of votes according to how many forum posts a user has, check out the voting help page:

Comments anyone? What do the rest of you think?

I just wonder what will be gained with another Topic category?

You can create your own poll with each Enhancement Request that you submit. If you go back to 2004 when this section was created, a number of us submitted requests with polls. But you can't make anyone go back and vote.

Maybe items that have not been incorporated could be made into Sticky posts at the top? Then removed from Sticky when they are part of the program.......
Hope this was helpful..................good luck,
Bob
A humble man and PROUD of it!

Not another forum topic/category, a "feature requests" web page similar to the links I posted, its not the same thing.

Yes I remember, I submitted a few requests with polls too. I adopted the poll rating phrases you suggested as well but it was still fairly "labour intensive" to add a poll (should have written a macro to do that) so eventually I didn't bother adding polls to enhancement submissions.

That's true, not that many voted on most forum polls which was another reason I stopped adding them however a "feature requests" web page could inspire more users to vote because...

- Total list of requested features would be visible and (this is the new part) they'd be ranked against each other. We can't rank them against each other today just by using polls on posts in a topic category.

- Each user could be allotted votes according to their number of posts thereby encouraging posting and rewarding those that contribute frequently.

- The "Top Ten Feature Requests" could be made visible on the Home Page providing fresh content over time as different feature requests "climb in the polls". This would encourage users to visit the site more often to check out the rankings, view the full list, cast their votes if they hadn't already... or perhaps add a new feature request of their own.

Perhaps... I'm thinking only Marcus can make a post Sticky. Maybe the code to add Feature Requests functionality is freely available from SourceForge or perhaps there's a mod for this phpBB forum that would provide this.

Just throwing some ideas out there... what do you all think?
