Macro Scheduler Users Group Meeting Discussion Link

Post by JRL » Wed Mar 29, 2006 2:41 pm

My original question seems to have become a spring board for a Users Group Meeting discussion. The original thread has an active poll. I would suggest that any further discussion be continued at the original thread.

I intend to go there and cast my vote... :D

Original Topic
What causes the "Last edited" information to show up in a post. I often revisit posts to fix code errors, spelling/grammar mistakes, etc. Sometimes the "Last edited" information appears at the bottom of the post and sometimes it doesn't. Why?

Also, I like the new titles that show up on the left side of the screen with our login names. Not sure how long they've been there, I first noticed them last week. "Macro Veteran" sounds quite prestigious. I visited a Bob Hanson post in a search yesterday, I've always enjoyed Bob's avatar and the combination of his avatar and title cracked me up.

Always wondering about something,
Dick

Dick,

What's up - you finally got a day off or something? You can't be too busy if you have time to be wondering about stuff like this. ;-)

Actually I was wondering when someone would notice the new ranks. I snuck them up there a few days ago. They go like this:

Newbie: 0-19 posts
Junior Coder: 20-49 posts
Pro Scripter: 50-149 posts
Macro Veteran: 150-299 posts
Automation Wizard: 300+ posts

Hope you like 'em. So looks like you've got only 22 posts before you're an Automation Wizard. But that's not a cue for 22 blank or pointless posts ;-)

As for the "last edited" info showing up at the bottom. I think it only does that if there are replies already. If there are no replies it isn't an issue. If there are replies it is useful to know that a prior post was edited as it can change the context.

P.S. I think Bob should have his own unique rank title. Any suggestions?

I noticed the rankings and I'm glad for the confirmation that they weren't there before, I thought my memory was REALLY going

I think "Guru" is a well respected computer term and would be a logical step after Wizard.

Good idea. There are currently only two non-mjtnet people with over 300 posts, so maybe we'll wait a bit before adding another rank. Or for a bit of fun I might change the rankings now and then anyway ;-)

How about "Marcus' Little Helper" for Bob's unique ranking? It would also go well with the picture.

When I first started visiting this forum. long before I ever logged in to ask a question, Bob was my hero. Nearly any question I had about how to perform a task with Macro Scheduler, he had already answered for someone else. Usually I was only a quick search of Bob's responses on the forum away from instant knowledge.

As for time off, Is that like... between meetings?

Later,
Dick

Now everyone will require a script to post 200 times automatically.....

(about time I went "Pro")...

Too bad I had no time to read this positng subject, would probably learn something new again.

Seems every day, I learn something new on Macro Scheduler. Cannot do without great help from Marcus, JRL, and so many others.

So when is our Users Group meeting going to be held?
Hope this was helpful..................good luck,
Bob

I noticed the new ranks too and wondered about how many msgs each one took, until this post... looks good.

Totally agree with you JRL on Bob's contribution, over 1500 posts, that's quite a feat. Besides adding a wealth of info, I dare say he's also inspired others to take time to post and help others more often as well... the user community here looks to be healthy and growing.

Bob, I remember talk of a User's Group meeting in years past. Was one held? If so, were any minutes recorded? I expect travel would be the biggest obstacle... perhaps some virtual options are available?

Note: If anyone else on the planet would find the following useful...
[Open] PlayWav command that plays from embedded script data
...then please add your thoughts/support at the above post - :-)

May I suggest a user group meeting location somewhere between the U.S. and Europe?

Barbados should do nicely. (Nice, France would be my second pick)...

I volunteer to go to the real location and set up a virtual meeting....

I'll be in Sardinia and, hopefully, Sicily next week. So if you like I'll case them out as suitable venues ;-)

Seriously, great idea on user group meeting. This has come up before but we've never really gotten anywhere with it. I'm open to ideas and would be happy to consider ways of supporting such an event. The question is, is there really enough interest in something like this, where should it be and what format should it follow?

Marcus,
Have you ever thought about adding a chat room to this forum?
You could use it for virtual meetings and it would be a great place for members to hang out and share their knowledge with others. You could use IRC, it is easy to add to this forum and can be accessed via a link on this site, IRC chat client like mIRC, ChatZilla extension using Firefox etc.
I hang out 24/7 in quiet a few IRC channels and would most definitely hang out in yours :)
